Auditory Processing Disorder

What is Auditory Processing Disorder (APD)

Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) occurs when the ears hear sounds correctly, but the brain has trouble interpreting or making sense of them. People with APD may struggle to understand speech in noisy places, follow verbal instructions, or distinguish between similar sounds. With the right training and support, listening and comprehension skills can often improve significantly.

Why Auditory Processing Matters

Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) affects how the brain interprets sound. Even with normal

hearing, people may struggle to:

  • Follow conversations in noisy environments
  • Understand rapid or accented speech
  • Remember auditory information for learning or work tasks

At Time 2 Hear, we assess and train the brain’s listening pathways, helping clients hear and

comprehend more effectively.

Our Expertise

Shevawn Becker, Principal Audiologist, is one of Australia’s leading experts in adult auditory processing:

  • Trained under Dr. Elizabeth Leigh, international adult APD expert
  • Extensive training in all major auditory processing models (Bellis & Ferre, Buffalo, Chermak& Musiek)
  • One of only a few audiologists in Australia offering structured adult APD brain training

Shevawn combines the best evidence-based strategies from each model to provide personalised, effective care for children, adults, hearing aid users, and clients with neurological conditions such

as TBI.
