About Us

More Than Hearing Aids. A Journey to Optimal Hearing.

At Time2Hear, we believe hearing care should be about more than hearing tests and hearing aids.

Hearing is about staying connected with the people you love, participating in conversations with confidence, enjoying the sounds that enrich your life, and maintaining your independence for years to come.

That's why every assessment, every hearing aid fitting and every follow-up appointment at Time2Hear has been designed around one simple goal:

Helping you achieve optimal hearing.

Unlike many clinics that focus primarily on hearing aids, we look at the bigger picture - your hearing, your brain, your communication, your lifestyle and the moments that matter most to you.

Because hearing well isn't just about hearing more sound.

It's about living life more fully.

Why Hearing Is About More Than Your Ears

Many people think hearing happens in the ears.

In reality, your ears simply collect sound. It's your brain that recognises voices, understands speech, filters background noise and gives meaning to everything you hear.

When hearing becomes more difficult, your brain has to work much harder to fill in the missing pieces. This increased listening effortcan leave you feeling mentally exhausted, frustrated and less confident in noisy environments.

Over time, people often begin avoiding conversations, restaurants or social gatherings—not because they don't enjoy them, but because listening has become too difficult.

Looking after your hearing isn't simply about hearing better.

It's about supporting communication, confidence, social connection and long-term brain health.

The Brain Can Adapt - for Better or Worse

One of the most fascinating discoveries in hearing science is neuroplasticity - the brain's remarkable ability to change and adapt throughout life.

When hearing loss reduces the amount of sound reaching the brain, the brain begins adapting to this reduced input. Research in auditory neuroscience has shown that prolonged auditory deprivation can lead to changes in the way the brain processes sound.

Research has demonstrated that when the brain receives less meaningful auditory stimulation, it can reorganise its neural pathways. Some of these changes may make listening more effortful and reduce the brain's efficiency in processing speech, particularly in challenging listening environments.

The encouraging news is that neuroplasticity also works in a positive direction.

Providing the brain with clearer, more accurate sound through well-fitted hearing aids, together with consistent use, rehabilitation and communication practice, helps the brain adapt to hearing again.

Like any form of learning, this takes time.

That's why hearing care shouldn't end when hearing aids are fitted.

Hearing Aids Are Only Part of the Solution

Hearing aids are incredibly valuable, but they don't do the hearing - your brain does.

Modern hearing aids use sophisticated technology to analyse your listening environment and deliver clearer, more personalised sound to your ears. They provide your brain with the sound information it needs to recognise speech and make sense of conversations.

But even the most advanced hearing aid can't instantly retrain the brain.

After months or years of hearing loss, your brain needs time to rediscover sounds it may not have heard clearly for a long time.

That's why adapting to hearing aids is a journey - not a single appointment.

At Time2Hear, we support you through that journey with education, fine-tuning, hearing rehabilitation and ongoing care.

Precision Matters: Why We Use Real Ear Measurements

Every ear is unique.

Think about blowing across the tops of different-sized bottles. Each bottle produces a different note because of its shape and size.

Your ears work in much the same way.

The shape and length of your ear canal naturally change how sound behaves, amplifying some speech frequencies while reducing others - sometimes by 20–30 dB, which can make certain sounds seem around four to eight times louder than others which can make some sounds overwhelming and others barely perceivable.

This means that even two people with identical hearing tests can require different hearing aid settings.

That's why every hearing aid fitted at Time2Hear is verified using Real Ear Measurements (REM) -the international gold standard for hearing aid fitting.

Rather than relying on computer predictions or average ears, we measure exactly how sound behaves inside your ear canal while you're wearing your hearing aids.

This allows us to accurately verify that your hearing aids are delivering the correct amount of sound for your unique ears and hearing prescription - not too little and not too much.

The result is better speech clarity, more comfortable listening, reduced listening effort and confidence that you're receiving the best possible hearing from the very beginning.

Protecting Your Brain Health

Research has consistently shown that untreated hearing loss is associated with an increased risk of cognitive decline and dementia. While hearing loss does not necessarily cause dementia, it is recognised as one of the most important modifiable risk factors for maintaining brain health.

Looking after your hearing may help you:

  • Stay      socially connected
  • Reduce      listening effort and mental fatigue
  • Support      healthy communication
  • Maintain      confidence and independence
  • Keep      your brain engaged through meaningful conversations and everyday listening

Protecting your hearing isn't just an investment in your ears.

It's an investment in your future.

Our Approach to Optimal Hearing

Every person who walks through our doors is different.

That's why we don't believe in one-size-fits-all hearing care.

Instead, every client begins with a personalised journey.

We take time to understand:

  • Your      Hearing Story
  • Your      Hearing Health Profile
  • The      Moments That Matter most to you
  • Your      communication goals
  • Your      listening challenges
  • Your      hearing priorities
  • Your      lifestyle

Together, we create a personalised hearing plan that may include:

  • Hearing      rehabilitation
  • Communication      strategies
  • Auditory      training
  • Tinnitus      management

  • Hearing      aid care and maintenance program

Because our goal isn't simply better hearing aids.

It's better hearing.

The Story Behind Time 2 Hear

Time2Hear was founded by audiologist Shevawn Becker, whose philosophy has been shaped by both professional expertise and lived experience.

Her passion for hearing care began when her twin sons experienced glue ear and auditory processing difficulties as young children. Seeing how hearing affected their learning, confidence and communication inspired her to pursue a career in audiology.

Years later, that journey became deeply personal when Shevawn experienced a sudden sensorineural hearing loss and was diagnosed with Ménière's disease. Living with fluctuating hearing, tinnitus and vertigo gave her a first-hand understanding of the emotional and practical challenges faced by so many of her clients.

Professionally, Shevawn has also worked in auditory neuroscience research at The University of Queensland, investigating how the brain processes sound and adapts to hearing loss. More recently, she has contributed to the ongoing development of the Active Communication Education (ACE) program - an internationally recognised hearing rehabilitation program that helps people build confidence, improve communication and reduce the everyday impact of hearing difficulties. Her background also includes psychology, education, lifestyle medicine and dementia care, giving her a unique perspective on the relationship between hearing, communication, cognition and overall wellbeing.

Seeing both her mother and grandmother live with dementia reinforced how precious communication, connection and cognitive health truly are. More recently, witnessing the profound impact of communication difficulties within her own family strengthened her commitment to helping others preserve their hearing, remain connected with the people they love and maintain their independence for as long as possible.

These experiences continue to shape every aspect of Time2Hear's philosophy.
